Laser Teeth Whitening

Laser teeth whitening is the best whitening treatment available. It works by holding hydrogen peroxide containing gel to the teeth for one hour (two thirty-minute treatments or three twenty-minute treatments) and using a laser to speed up the process. A patient sits with the gel on his or her teeth with the laser shining on the teeth for the entire procedure. This procedure is the most effective because it leaves the teeth exposed to the bleaching agent for less time than all other pro

White Trays

Aquafresh White Trays are another one of the teeth whitening products which works very well. The are direct competitive products against Crest's Whitestrips. The Aquafresh trays have the advantage of being able to get in between the cracks and grooves in the teeth, because a gel is used instead of a strip. However, this also creates some negative effects. The gel is hard to control, so spillage on to the gums is very easy, causing burning and tissue damage. Otherwise, this product works especially well.

Whitestrips

Crest Whitestrips are an excellent teeth whitening product and are highly effective. They work by holding hydrogen peroxide against the teeth for a long period of time. However, these products are not perfect; they do, unfortunately, slide off the teeth easily, spilling bleach into the mouth. Obviously, the whitening effect is diminished when this happens. The Crest Whitestrips family contains Classic, Premium, Pro Effects, Advanced Seal, Daily Whitening Multicare, and Supreme.

Toothpastes

Whitening toothpastes are another common form of teeth whitening products. They contain several types of chemicals, but usually do not contain hydrogen peroxide, the common bleaching agent in most teeth whiteners. Instead, teeth whitening toothpastes contain abrasive materials which are used to scrape discoloring particles off of the teeth. While this is effective for removing discoloring particles, it is not effective for whitening. A bleaching agent is needed.

Mouthwashes

Teeth whitening mouthwashes are a modern invention and are popularly sold in most drug stores. The effectiveness of teeth whitening mouthwashes, however, is questionable. Teeth whitening mouthwashes contain hydrogen peroxide, a bleaching agent commonly used to whiten teeth. However, to whiten teeth, hydrogen peroxide needs to sit on the teeth for a long period of time. So, at best, teeth whitening mouthwashes are good maintenance tools.
